Success Story of Mrs. MP Bai / Phateh Singh

M.P Bai, was born in village Imlikheda. She was married at an age of 16 and came to Phateh Singh of Beelkheda village. As she could not conceive her husband married second women. They all (7member of the family) were living together in a hut in village Beelkheda. Eventhough they have 8 acres of land it was of no use as there was no water.

Since the members of the family are more and cannot live in one room. They decided to make a new house. They applied to Pradhan Mantra Awas Yojna through the panchayat president. The money which they got from PMAY was only to put the foundation of the house. Hence, they took Rs.40,000 from a money lender. Thus he and his second wife became bonded laborer . He had 2 children in the second wife. Even though he had taken Rs 40000 from the land lord to make a new house. With this he was bank corrupt and no money for food clothing and medicine for the family. Hence he took further loan from the money lender. Thus the amount became Rs. 72000, so he had to continue as bonded labor.

Then comes the entry of CEROWC in to village Beelkheda. The entertainers of CEROWC invited the women of Beelkheda for a meeting. The program manager Mr. Bhupendera and entertainer Mr. Himmat addressed the women’s group and spoke to them about self help group and its advantage. They had a discussion on the topics shared by CERWC Staff and decided to form self-help group hearing of its benefits. The leading women of the area collected 30 women and made 3 self help groups. MP Bai was one of the members who decided to be a member as they were in very difficult situation. She regularly attended the meeting and deposited Rs. 100 which she earns from her daily labor. She lived with her elderly in-laws looking after the household’s things cultivating the lands making the kitchen garden etc. Even though she had no water she used to borrow from other and cultivate the land. She made the compost manure to use in the kitchen garden and vegetable garden. Thus the family was consuming good vegetable in the house. She keeps country chicken and earns some money from that too. The in -laws were very happy with her seeing her hard work to bring up his family. Now she has three cow giving milk and earning Rs 20 000 additionally .

Phateh Singh and his second wife lived in the money lenders thatched house. The environment of the village Beelkheda was improving because of a private aurvedic collage was established in village. Phateh Singh wanted to leave his job and come back to the village. He took another loan of 50000 and gave to the money lender and promised to give the balance soon. Phateh Singh with his second wife came back to the village.

Mp. Bai approached the SHG to buy a cow. She gave the application and submitted Rs.10, 000/- as local contribution to CEROWC the with the assistance of father in-law. Mp. Bai cared for cow very well and cow was giving her 10 liter of milk. Now they planned to start a tea stall near to the Aurveda College. MP Bai,s tea Stall was the only consolation for the students as well the workers. Thus MP Bai’s tea stall flourished well and the assistance of the Phateh Singh she added nutrients namkeen, biscuts, cool drink etc. Thus the income increased.

The money MP Bai collects from the milk she gave to her husband phateh Singh and freed him from the bonded labor.

Now seeing the capacity of MP Bai the collage authorities appointed her as a peon in the collage and the collage pay her Rs 6000 per month. The shop cared by Phateh Singh and MP Bai busy in collage. Before going to the collage and after coming to the collage MP Bai cared for her cow which brought growth in the family. Thus She earns 20000/ per month with which she cares for the family as well as old in laws.

She took 3 acres of land on lease and cultivate in it . She started vegetable cultivation with which she make breakfast for the college students of the nearby college where she work as a non-teaching staff.From this shop she earns an amount of Rs.1000 to 2000 daily.
